I am currently based at the Max Planck Institute in Tuebingen, working on the Philosophy of Statistical Learning Theory. This theory tells you when you should have confidence that a classifier you have trained on data will continue to classify accurately. Some work in progress is available here and here.

I shall be joining the philosophy department of the University of Kent at Canterbury in September 2007. Anyone looking for a place to pursue postgraduate studies is very welcome.

My research interests: Philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of science, Philosophy of psychology, psychosomatic medicine.

In 2003 I published a book, Towards a Philosophy of Real Mathematics, with Cambridge University Press - reviews.

An account of my work as one of three living dialectical philosophers of mathematics by Brendan Larvor.

I have written a book, Why Do People Get Ill?, with Darian Leader about the psychosomatic approach to medicine, which has appeared with Hamish Hamilton (Penguin Books) in February 2007. I am running a blog in connection with the book.
